Founder of GemJam

Rupert Taylor is the founder of GemJam. He has spent thirteen years dealing in preloved Cartier, Van Cleef & Arpels and other luxury goods at Dandelion Antiques, and writes GemJam's code himself. The product exists because the Airtable-and-Zapier setup he was using to run his own shop kept breaking at exactly the wrong moment.

Dandelion Antiques is an online dealer in preloved luxury — Cartier and Van Cleef & Arpels jewellery, Hermès and Chanel handbags — trading since 2013. Running it taught Rupert exactly which corners existing inventory tools cut for dealers of unique stock, and which HMRC obligations they leave you to handle by hand.

Before GemJam, the back office of Dandelion ran on a stitched-together stack: a spreadsheet for purchases, Shopify for listings, an Airtable database glued to it all by about a thousand pounds a year of Zapier automations. The automations kept breaking at exactly the wrong moment — a sale on a Saturday morning, a margin scheme calculation that needed double-checking before invoicing. GemJam is the software Rupert built to replace that stack, starting with the dealer he knows best (his own).

Every feature in GemJam exists because a real dealer needed it. The VAT Margin Scheme calculations, the Xero-compatible export, the unique-stock model where each item is either in stock or sold — all of it comes from years of running the same workflow by hand.
